Art workshop for HIV affected children

| 2018

In 2018, Maisha Studio organized an art workshop for HIV-affected children from SIP Memorial Trust, a home founded by a transgender woman in 2006 to care for children affected by HIV. With over 45 children between the ages of 5 and 23 facing housing challenges, the workshop was a means to raise funds for a new building, while providing the children a platform to express their creativity. During the workshop, Maisha Studio students taught the children acrylic painting techniques, many of whom were painting for the first time in their lives. Together, they created 3ft by 3ft canvases inspired by landscapes, forging bonds of friendship across different age groups.

The paintings were later exhibited at Outside The Lines 2018, Maisha Studio's annual event, held at the prestigious Lalit Kala Akademi. The children were thrilled to see their work displayed alongside other student artists, a powerful reminder that art transcends background and circumstance. Proceeds from the sale and auction of the paintings were donated to the SIP Memorial Trust Building Fund, contributing to the construction of a new home for the children. This initiative combined the therapeutic power of art with a meaningful community effort, empowering the children and the Maisha students to realize the impact of sharing knowledge and creativity for a greater cause.
