An Inclusive photowalk

|2024

As part of the prep for Local ’24, Chennai’s first inclusive photowalk was organized in collaboration with Srivatsan Shankaran, a Chennai-based travel photographer and founder of Madras Photo Bloggers. Members of the deaf community took the lead, teaching photography and guiding Maisha Studio students, fostering a creative exchange rooted in inclusivity. This experience provided a significant confidence boost for the deaf participants as they taught and facilitated the students. In turn, Maisha Studio students learned sign language, gained insight into the subtle yet profound challenges faced by individuals with disabilities, and developed empathy for working alongside them. The photowalk also allowed the students to bond with the deaf community as peers, learning from each other while exploring the vibrant and culturally significant Paris Corner flower market.
