Leadership through creativity

|2015

In collaboration with Kavya, a researcher focused on ecofeminism and sustainable menstrual practices, Maisha Studio conducted an art and leadership workshop for over 250 teenage girls in Vedaranyam. Led by Aishwarya Manivannan, the workshop marked the culmination of a six-month project spearheaded by Kavya, aimed at empowering young women to develop their creativity and leadership skills. Participants explored various art forms, including painting, drawing, and crafts, while learning design thinking techniques that encouraged them to view art as both a form of expression and a potential livelihood. The workshop provided a safe and inclusive space for the girls to express their thoughts and emotions, while fostering confidence in their ability to navigate and challenge patriarchal structures in their community.

By equipping them with practical skills and nurturing their creative talents, the program aimed to inspire the girls to become independent, assertive leaders, capable of shaping their own futures. Through art, they found not only a voice but also a means to envision new possibilities for themselves and their communities.
